Blessed with a daughter and a family greyhound! |
It began in October 2001, a lovely baby girl was born in a remote village in south west China to a family who was not able to care for her, probably due to the "one child policy" the nation has imposed on its people in order to control its swelling population.
We will never know why they had to abandon her or who they are. A few weeks later a beautiful puppy was born in Colorado into a culture not suited for any creature, but would not know any other way of life until he had given his very best, and then they were done with him.
Our family has been very blessed with the addition of a daughter and a greyhound to our family. They were born a world apart, but only a week apart. It was fate and faith that brought us all together. Jacqueline Xiao Meng (Jackie), was adopted July 2002 and Hallo Gable (Gabe), was adopted February 2007. We are a large family, 3 big boys, 1 darling girl, and our sweet hound with lots of love to share. When we decided to get a family dog, we did extensive research to find just the right breed. We found the greyhound to meet all the requirements, kind and mellow, good with children, easy in the house, smart, clean and simple to care for. Not to mention, they are gorgeous! The hound experts at GSGA matched Gabe to us and when we discovered the dates of birth of our two adopted babies, we knew it was a perfect match.
A successful adoption can not be done without support. The volunteers at GSGA continue to offer help and support on every level. Gabe is enjoying meeting all the hounds and making friends, and we as his parents are so happy to have developed new friendships as well. This story was submitted by greyhound owner Annette Litle.
