Bringing a New Greyhound Family Member Home
Teuzie's Story

When the time came for my family and I to adopt another member into our family, we had researched many breeds and asked many questions to numerous rescue groups all over Northern California. Golden State Greyhound Adoption and rescue was the only group that was able to answer all of the questions that I had and they were the only group that went into detail about the ownership of a retired racing greyhound.

After serious discussions and research within our family, we decided to take the next step and fill out an application with GSGA (Golden State Greyhound Adoption a greyhound rescue group) . Golden State located in the Bay area adopts greyhounds in Northern California. I was really amazed at how at ease I felt in my discussions that I had with Stuart on the phone and how he was able to put my mind at ease about the new responsibility I was venturing into. Three days after my application interview, I had my home check interview and was blessed with having a couple of Greyhounds inspect my home along with their owner, Julie.

Not long after my house check approval, I was notified that my new family member was arriving and that I could pick him up on Saturday. D’s Gold Scotty was the racing name of my new family member and I was informed about his harrowing experience of coming off of the Juarez, Mexico race tracks and that he was one of the first Greyhounds to make it into California…my excitement level had peaked after hearing of this amazing animals life story.

Scotty, now named Teuzie was stoic and confused when I met him, but it didn’t take long for him to realize that he had met the person who was going to spoil and love him for the rest of his life. I took Teuzie my new companion home and he instantly fell in love with my Min Pins and my Pom, but I could see that he was not sure of how to play with them, so after a couple days, my family and I discussed the options of taking in Teuzie’s sister, Amy, now named Amy. I called Stuart and Barbara, wondering if they would break up a planned brother and sister adoption, for the sister to come home with the other brother, and to my surprise, they said yes. So less than a week later, I went back with Teuzie and my family and adopted Amy.

I am so thankful for the members of Golden State Greyhound Adoption and their support, especially during the transition phase of my adoptions. I have been able to ask questions of the members and they have been more than helpful in giving me useful advice and educating me in how to make the transitions, for both me and my greyhounds, easier. I am now comfortable enough to help out new members who have been adopted into this amazing group of people. I am proud to be a part of a group of people who feel that the Retired Racing Greyhounds are special and are willing to educate the public about how truly amazing they are.
